An Experimental Study on the Effect of High Cholesterol Diet upon the Liver

Abstract
|
|
|
Fifty healthy Spraque-Dawley rats weighing around 150gm were used for the experiment and divided into 2 groups;
1. Control group fed basic diet.
2. Lipid administered group fed basic diet with cholesterol 100mg, corn oil 2gm, bile 20mg/day.
The results obtained from-these experiments were as follows;
1. In the lipid administered group various degree of cellular swelling, fat deposition of hepatic cord cells and bile pigmentation in Kupffer cells were observed.
2. Serum enzyme levels (GOT, GPT, alkaline phosphatase) and total bilirubin were elevated as compared with those of control group.
